Nestle announced that DiGiorno and Stouffer Brands would create and sell frozen meatless meals with plant-based meats. A DiGiorno pizza and Stouffer’s meatless lasagna will be part of the offering, according to MarketWatch.

These products will come to stores in Spring 2020. The meatless meat will be courtesy of Sweet Earth Awesome Grounds, the plant-based ground beef alternative. Awesome Grounds contain pea protein and provide 16 grams of protein. Awesome Grounds will be part of both the lasagna and the pizza. Sweet Earth was acquired by Nestle in 2017.

In development, Nestle’s own survey found that half of consumers either already use plant-based meats or would consider doing so. Almost half said they would try a pizza or lasagna with plant-based meats.

President of Nestle Foods Division John Carmichael said, “There’s no denying the current modern food movement is revolutionizing the plant-based space. By adding Sweet Earth Awesome Grounds to Stouffer’s and DiGiorno offerings, we’re able to offer our customers the chance to incorporate plant-based meals into their diets while still enjoying the same convenience and delicious flavor of brands they know and trust.”
