It all began with a single social media post, in which a customer who ordered the donuts to sell at her business expressed her disbelief upon discovering that the doughnut they had purchased, purportedly vegan and gluten-free, bore a striking resemblance to a classic Dunkin’ original, complete with “D” shaped sprinkles. As the post gained traction, doughnut enthusiasts and skeptics alike found themselves drawn into the unfolding drama, eager for answers and resolution.

In an update post from the customer, @cindysnacks, revealed that the baker at Savory Fig is alleged to buying similar sprinkles. When sent the link to the sprinkles that were purchased, cindysnacks ordered them to uncover the truth. They were not the same sprinkles. Additionally, the owner of cindysnacks tested the donuts, which were meant to be gluten-free, for gluten. The test came back positive.

As news of the doughnut debacle spreads, it has sparked a broader conversation about food authenticity, dietary requirements, and the trust between consumers and producers. While some view the incident through the lens of humor, others see it as a reminder of the potential consequences of misleading marketing and false claims. Indeed, the episode forces us to confront uncomfortable truths about the lengths to which some may go in pursuit of profit, at the expense of transparency and integrity.
