Kraft Heinz is jumping on the plant-based wave as they announce a plan to make a line of new plant-based hot dogs. The company is joining forces with NotCo, a Chilean company that makes plant-based alternatives, like egg substitutes, milk, and meat.
Kraft Heinz is currently reworking their brands, including Oscar Mayer. The company strives to implement more straightforward ingredient lists on their products and introduce vegan Oscar Mayer’s Not Hot Dogs’.
Kraft Heinz President Carlos Abrams-Rivera said in a statement, “Now we will have the advantage of bringing the products you love from the brands you trust also with a plant-based option.”
As the plant-based diet is increasing in popularity, big corporations have wanted to get in on the action. Pepsi is currently working with Beyond to create plant-based snacks and drinks, and Tyson Foods, a company known for its horrible treatment of animals, has created its own line of meat substitutes.
This follows the European Parliament’s plan to combat cancer, which calls for the EU Commission and member states to encourage consumers to reduce meat consumption and eat a healthier plant-based diet.
Scientists agree that plant-based diets are healthy, help the environment, and obviously, aren’t contributing to as much animal abuse and cruelty as a diet that incorporates animal products.
