The recipe for these wheat grains is quite fascinating and so strange, that I wasn’t sure it would work. But it did and tastes so good! I can literally live on wheat grains all day long, as long as they are prepared like this. Trust me. Besides you can eat them sweet, salty, sour, spicy, however you want.
The technique requires you to bring them to a boil, remove them from the hot plate, cover the pot with a wool blanket, and leave them overnight to cook themselves. Sounds funny, right? The idea is that the wool blanket keeps the pot and the water hot and the grains cook slowly. It’s like we are in the stone age and we are digging them into the ground.
Wheat Grains
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 cups whole wheat grains
- spring water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
PREPARATION:
1. Wash the grains carefully.
2. Put them in a pot and cover with water. The water should cover them and stay 2 fingers above the grains in a 8″ | 21 cm pot.
3. Close the lid and bring them to a boil. Boil for 1-2 minutes.
4. Remove from the hot plate, keeping the lid on.
5. Cover the pot with wool blanket and leave somewhere for the night. If you don’t have wool blanket, use one of the light weighted blankets, they keep the warmth. Don’t use towels, they won’t work!
6. In the morning your grains will be perfectly cooked, the water will be absorbed and they will be still warm. Delicious!
