It may often feel as if our dogs and cats are our most loyal companions. After all, they are so pleased to see us and comfort us when we are feeling blue. For one wealthy woman in China, the love she received from her dogs and cats has led to her changing her will to leave her animal companions a fortune totaling roughly 2.8 million dollars. Now, her dogs and cats stand to inherit this fortune in place of her children.
Instead of leaving the money to her three children, the wealthy Shanghai woman has decided to leave her millions to her animal companions. According to her, this is because she felt her children neglected her during her old age. She says that they even neglected her when she became ill. However, her dogs and cats remained by her side. Since it is illegal to leave money to animals in China, the elderly lady will have a local veterinary clinic administer the money on behalf of her beloved animal companions. They will provide care not only to her dogs and cats but also to any offspring they may have.
This is not the first instance of a beloved animal companion being left a substantial inheritance. The richest dog in history was a German Shepherd named Gunther III. After Gunther’s human, who was a German countess, passed away she left the pup 65 million dollars
Although the wealthy woman in China has chosen to alter her will to name her animal companions as beneficiaries, officials have advised her that it will be possible to alter her will in the future if she desires. For now, her decision has been met with mixed reactions. Some people have praised her decision. They have said that they would also choose to leave their property to others if their children mistreat them.
