The booming wellness industry isn’t just for humans anymore — it’s now shaping how people care for their pets. According to The New York Times, owners are increasingly turning to supplements, raw meat diets, and even “collagen puptides” in the hopes of giving their furry companions longer, healthier lives.

From CBD oils and mushroom extracts to elaborate homemade raw meals, the pet wellness market has exploded in recent years. Some owners spend hours grinding meats and mixing in taurine, vitamin E, and fish oil, convinced it gives their cats or dogs an edge in longevity. Others skip traditional flea and tick medications in favor of essential oils or swap Prozac prescriptions for hemp treats marketed as calming alternatives.

The demand has created a hybrid industry combining high-end animal care with the Goop-style wellness boom. Brands now sell ashwagandha for pet anxiety, colloidal silver for wound care, and powders claiming to improve joint strength or digestive health. Social media has amplified these trends, with influencers showcasing their pets’ supplement regimens alongside their own.

Veterinarians, however, are wary. Experts warn that raw meat diets carry risks of bacterial infections, and that many supplements are not tested or regulated, meaning ingredient accuracy and safety can’t always be guaranteed. Vaccine skepticism has also crept into pet care, with surveys showing that more than half of dog owners have expressed hesitation about standard vaccinations — a worrying trend that could endanger both animals and public health.

Still, the wellness wave reflects a deeper truth: people increasingly see their pets as family and want to invest in their well-being. For some, experimenting with supplements feels more accessible than costly veterinary treatments, especially as vet bills continue to rise. But when it comes to safeguarding the lives of beloved animals, experts stress that evidence-based care remains the safest path.

Loving our pets means choosing what truly helps them thrive. By combining thoughtful care, plant-forward nutrition, and trust in science, we can ensure their lives are long, safe, and full of joy.
