What if we told you there was a brewery that helped both people and animals? If you think it’s too good to be true, think again.

Sanctuary Brewing Company is an all-vegan microbrewery located in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains of Hendersonville, North Carolina (about 30 minutes outside of Asheville, North Carolina) and they have been hard at work at advocating for humans and animals alike since they opened two years ago in a 4,000 square-foot former warehouse.

Sanctuary Brewing Company serves up beers with clever names like the Weekend Joe Coffee Stout on nitro; the Raspberry Beret Saison; the Karma Kanic Coffee Porter; and the Lil’ Sebastian Pale Ale, just to name a few, all while working with local animal rescue organizations and advocacy groups. Sanctuary Brewing has raised thousands of dollars for humanitarian and animal charities alike and has helped adopt out over 150 animals by hosting adoption events.

Enjoy a beer while helping animals AND people? Ok fine, if you’re going to twist my arm…

Founders Lisa McDonald and Joe Dinan have been changing the game. Not only does the brewery offer delicious beer, they are known for live local music, puppy-cuddling pup crawls, free meal Sundays, and many other philanthropic pursuits.

Sanctuary Brewing also hosts yoga with cats. This is not a drill, people. Yoga. With. Cats. With all the proceeds benefiting local animal rescue organizations!

The brewery also has a “kindness wall,” which has free bags for people to take if they need. In the summer, they focus hand sanitizer, razors, shampoo, toothbrushes, etc, and in the winter they focus on keeping people warm. People can also Donate to the kindness wall!

Many customers of Sanctuary Brewing aren’t vegan but that doesn’t stop them from enjoying the pub, with people simply appreciating the fact that the brewery is trying to do some good in the mountain town. “Compassion is universal, it doesn’t relate to one species over another,” said founder Lisa McDonald in and interview with Paste Magazine. We certainly agree with that!

If you’re planning a trip to Western North Carolina, be sure to add Sanctuary Brewing to your list of places to go. Or maybe plan a trip just to visit Sanctuary Brewing. We won’t judge.
