An elephant never forgets—and neither does the internet. A Spanish tourist who filmed himself pouring beer down an elephant’s trunk at the Ol Jogi Conservancy in Kenya is now facing international backlash and investigation by local authorities.
The man, who posts as Skydive_Kenya on Instagram, quickly deleted the video after it went viral, but not before conservationists and animal advocates condemned the reckless stunt. Not only did it endanger the elephant, named Bupa, but it also violated strict sanctuary rules designed to keep both visitors and animals safe.
Elephants have highly sensitive digestive systems, and there’s no evidence they can safely consume alcohol. What may have seemed like a joke could have caused serious health problems for Bupa. Experts warn that alcohol ingestion can lead to dehydration, disorientation, and even organ damage in wildlife. This isn’t entertainment—it’s cruelty.
The tourist also risked his own safety. Elephants are gentle when respected, but they are powerful beings who fiercely protect themselves and their families when threatened. Across the world, there have been hundreds of incidents where humans pushing boundaries have ended up injured—or worse.
This incident highlights a bigger issue: treating wild animals as props for social media clout. Elephants are deeply social, emotional creatures who mourn their dead and form lifelong family bonds. Exploiting them for selfies, circus tricks, or dangerous stunts is not only disrespectful, it’s harmful.
Bupa deserves dignity, not beer poured down his trunk for a viral video. Tourists everywhere must learn that respecting wildlife means observing from a distance, following rules, and leaving nature as it is. Every encounter should be about protecting the environment, not exploiting it.
By making compassionate choices—supporting sanctuaries, rejecting animal entertainment, and embracing vegan values—we can ensure elephants like Bupa are treated with the respect they deserve.
