Over 20,000 pounds of sausage have been recalled after reports that some products may contain hard pieces of plastic, according to WKRC. Johnsonville, LLC issued the recall through the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) for a batch of their cheddar bratwurst.
The affected product is the 19 oz. sealed firm tray package containing five pieces of “Johnsonville Brats Cheddar Bratwurst,” marked with the package code B9FOD and the establishment number “Est. 1647.” Some of these contaminated sausages were already distributed across Ohio, raising concerns about the potential for serious injury if the plastic is consumed.
FSIS warned that some people may still have the product stored in their freezers and advised consumers to check their purchases carefully. If you find the recalled bratwurst in your freezer or fridge, you are urged to throw it away or return it to the store where you bought it.
While product recalls like this are meant to protect public health, they also highlight the risks tied to the meat industry’s heavy production methods. From contamination to packaging errors, the focus on mass production often puts both people and animals at risk.
If you’re looking for a safer, more compassionate option, this is the perfect reminder to explore plant-based choices. Choosing vegan alternatives means fewer factory-farmed animals, less environmental harm, and more peace of mind when it comes to food safety. Every small switch makes a big difference for the planet, for the animals, and for you.
