Zebby is a Support cat who helps his human, Genevive Moss, around the house. Support animals like Zebby provide companionship to their humans. However, in Zebby’s case, he has gone above and beyond to assist his human.
Zebby and Genevive live in Derbyshire. Genevieve is deaf, so Zebby has learned to let her know when there are noises she needs to pay attention to. For instance, the Support cat will let his human know when the phone rings, or if there is someone at the door. He will even alert her if there is an unusual noise while she is sleeping. Recently, Zebby won a national award in recognition of his work.
The two-year-old, black and white Support cat was named National Cat of the Year by the cat rescue charity Cats Protection. Out of four finalists, Zebby won through popular vote. He was awarded a trophy and a prize package. One of the items in the prize package was a gift certificate to a pet store.
Zebby has not received any formal training, which makes his Support that much more impressive. In addition to helping Genevive “hear” around the house, he also assists with daily tasks like fetching the mail or fetching her slippers. This impressive cat’s devotion to his human highlights how strong the bond can be between a feline and their person. Understandably, Genevive is delighted that Zebby’s hard work is being recognized.
Every year, millions of companion animals enter shelters. Sadly, not all of them are adopted. Sign this petition to Demand More Funding for Local Animal Shelters!
