Kabelo, the rhino, is so loving and sweet to his caretaker Laura, you would never guess that he is an orphan whose mother was cruelly taken from him. Thankfully, he is now in the able hands of The Rhino Orphanage in South Africa.
Rhinos today face great danger due to the demand for their horns. In Traditional Asian Medicine, rhino horns are considered to be a valuable ingredient with “medicinal benefits” such as the ability to cure typhoid fever, boils, and poisoning. Rhino horns, however, are made of keratin, the same protein that makes up our hair and nails, meaning you can simply chew on your nails to get the same alleged “benefits. It is estimated that three rhinos are killed for their horns every single day. At such a pace, the future for this species is looking bleak.
Unfortunately, most rhinos do not end up in the arms of a loving human. While this problem may at times seem too large to tackle, there are a number of things you can do to help!
Firstly, share this video and help raise awareness for the plight of rhinos and second, Support the work of The Rhino Orphanage by clicking here.
