If there ever was an “Extreme Dog Makeover” show, Holland would definitely be the winner. This poor dog was dropped off at a shelter and was so matted it was hard to tell what other medical problems she was suffering from. Trio Animal Foundation (TAF) was called to assist with Hollands condition.
The kind folks at TAF worked hard to cut through the matting and free Holland from the thick casing but these are not your typical mats. Mats of this magnitude are very dangerous and can result in skin infections, physical disorders, and behavioral issues. These are the types of mats that are the result of months and months, oftentimes even years of neglect. Severe matting keeps the skin from being able to breathe, traps in moisture, and are extremely difficult to remove without causing further pain to the dog.
Please remember that adding a pet to your family is a lifelong commitment that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Make sure every member of the family understands that a pet should be cared for in sickness and health, in good times and bad – just like you would any other family member. Also, be sure to look into temperament and activity levels and ask in-depth questions about any pet you are considering, just to be sure you make the right match for your family and lifestyle. Additionally, having a pet can be expensive. From healthy pet food, vet bills, beds, toys, grooming, and more, be sure that you can financially handle caring for a pet now and in the future.
Trio Animal Foundation is a non-profit located in Chicago, Illinois that assists shelters, rescues, and individuals to care for abandoned, abused, and neglected pets. They also promote adoption and responsible pet ownership, including spay and neutering.

Poor little sod. No wonder she is so smiley now.
Wonderful to see, but terrible such a makeover should have been necessary. Thank goodness for the good people who rescue and care for these poor dogs. To their eventual adopters, many thanks.
Bless her sweet little face. So glad she is now loved. ❤
