Some people may not know this, but there are currently three satellites circling our planet that were launched under the U.S. Government’s polar ice monitoring program. However, all three of these satellites are out of date, and the Government says they will not launch a new one until 2023.
As a petition on Care2 explains, the data that these satellites monitor are vital for the entire globe. Even a tiny change in polar ice can lead to drastic changes worldwide, like disastrous flooding, storm surges, and the death of endangered species like polar bears. The earth cannot stand to lose this valuable research.
The petition is calling on two scientifically-minded individuals, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, and Jeff Bezos, founder of Blue Origin, to provide launch facilities and mission Support for this polar ice monitoring program to not only maintain it but to improve it as well.
We cannot let Climate change deniers win and make Mother Earth pay the ultimate price. Please take a moment to sign the petition addressed to Musk and Bezos in Support of the upkeep of these polar ice monitoring satellites.
