Perhaps the most recognizable victim of deforestation in Indonesia’s precious ecosystems is the magnificent orangutan. Due to big industry’s demand for palm oil, these irreplaceable forests and the precious plants and animals who call the forest home are vanishing at increasingly alarming rates. Thankfully environmental Conservation and animal welfare groups like UK-based International Animal Rescue (IAR) are doing all they can to save what is left of our world’s dwindling habitats.
Since 1989, IAR has been on the battleground fighting for helpless animals who are abused and exploited by humans. From help to end India’s dancing bear trade, saving abandoned cats and dogs, and rescuing orangutans, IAR is a true friend of the earth.
When rainforests are cleared for palm oil plantations, the animals who live within the towering trees and lush brush either suffer a painful burning death, severe debilitating injuries, or are left alone as orphans. Babies whose mothers have been killed are often kidnapped and sold as pets. Here is where IAR has stepped in and done miraculous work. After rescuing the endangered orangutans, they rehabilitate them until they are healthy and well enough to be released back in the wild. Those who are too injured to survive in the wild are provided with a safe sanctuary for the rest of their new lives.
This video features a few of these beautiful creatures being released back in the wild and serves as the glimmer of hope the world needs. Seeing success stories like these fuel change and encourages hope for a brighter future for orangutans and other victims of deforestation and the devastating palm oil conflict.
