There is no denying that the future of food is plant-based. Thanks to a number of influential celebrities, like Beyoncé and Tom Brady, plant-based nutrition is growing in popularity. And thanks to meal kit service brands like Purple Carrot, eating nutritious plant-based meals has never been easier. Brady partnered with Purple Carrot in 2017 to develop a marketable meal plan based on what he eats, a partnership that has proven to be very successful, with one-third of Purple Carrot’s sales coming from Brady’s TB12 meal kit. With consumer demand for plant-based foods up by 140 percent, investing in plant-based companies has never been a wiser decision, and Purple Carrot just received a $4 million investment from Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. to expand their 100 percent plant-based meal kit business.
A representative for Purple Carrot stated, “For Purple Carrot, the investment brings an infusion of capital as well as leverage to optimize supply chain efficiency, gain access to the developing retail chain, and pursue unique opportunities for category expansion. In addition, it will give the brand unparalleled access to an even stronger array of quality ingredients, farms, and distribution channels. The investment comes at a time where the growth in plant-based eating is expected to double from 2015 to an estimated $25 billion in 2020 — and the meal kit market is projected to grow from $1.6 billion in 2016 to $35 billion in 2025.”
Andy Levitt, Purple Carrot’s founder and CEO, shared, “The investment is a huge validation of our business model, and an important step forward for our company. Helping people eat more plant-based foods represents our differentiated, purpose-driven commitment to making the planet and the people who live on it healthier.”
This is awesome news for Purple Carrot, and we hope this investment allows them to expand their influence on even more consumers, which will then have an effect on the health of the planet as well.
