Ready for a sad story with a happy ending? Meet Colby, a puppy whose had a rough start at life. A victim of violence — from children, which makes it even worse — Colby’s future wasn’t looking too bright. That was until Southern Cross Animal Rescue (SCAR) received an anonymous tip about a dog in trouble.
SCAR wrote of the abuse on their Facebook: “Colby, who is only about 10 weeks old, was rescued from a scary situation last week. We received an anonymous call that a small puppy was being abused at an apartment complex. This was an urgent situation for this little guy, since deceased dogs have been discovered at the same location before. Witnesses stated seeing children kicking him and throwing rocks at him for several days. During his abuse, he suffered a broken front leg. On his x-ray, the fracture is a spiral pattern, as if to indicate someone twisted his leg to the point of breaking.”
SCAR wrote about the complex where this occurred and what happened when they showed up [in a comment on the original post]: “This complex is well known by law enforcement and DHS. It was an anonymous tip that told us of the abuse and led us there – once there, a few young girls told us about all of the abuse even without us asking.” They wrote that adults were less open and some even tried to hush the girls. We think those adults could learn something from those little girls.
If you want to help Colby and SCAR, check out the PayPal and Amazon Wishlist they have set up. Let’s make sure this precious baby can leave the hard days behind him; let’s fill the rest of his life with love and goodness. And, of course, if you ever see an animal in trouble, do something. Don’t wait for someone else, as they may never come.
