The new eFuel used is made from carbon dioxide and H2O and was developed by a company named Highly Innovative Fuels. Porsche has invested in the company to accelerate their goals to go all-electric in the future.
Highly Innovative Fuels uses a wind-powered plant in Punta Arenas, Chile. The plant is located near the tip of South America, where there is wind nearly all year round. To make the fuel, the company uses carbon captured from the atmosphere and pairs it with hydrogen sourced from the water to create methane. This is then converted into a fuel that works like gasoline.
A Porsche spokesman told Fox News Digital that the 911 model that they used to demonstrate the fuel required no modifications and that virtually any gasoline car could use the new fuel. The plant hopes to ramp up production by the end of this decade to cut down the costs that it takes to make the fuel.
