This Poodle Has Matted Fur Wrapped Around Her Leg Like a Vice Grip, But She Refuses to Give Up

Author Bio

I am a writer and illustrator living in Poland.

Curtsy is around 10 years old and weighs only five pounds, but, unfortunately, her age did not grant her due respect and the small unassuming physique did not save her from falling victim to neglect either. Trio Animal Foundation (TAF) was notified about this sweet toy poodle and called to an open shelter because of a major injury to her back leg. The rescuers found her matted fur wrapped tight around the leg, making it very possible that the pup might lose the limb – but Curtsy is not giving up.

Curtsy had been dropped at the shelter by yet another open access shelter in hopes that the injured dog would finally find help or someone would humanely end her suffering. At that time, it was already obvious that the tiny poodle needed urgent medical help and maggots were already to be found on her injured leg.

Although her condition is serious, Curtsy quickly proved what she is all about when she started running around – the TAF team could not even keep up with her! She was, as they write, a “little matted mess,” but she still had a lot of energy and life in her – which was the most wonderful and heartening news.

Curtsy was taken to the emergency vet right away and is now hospitalized on IV fluids, antibiotics, and pain medication. She has also received treatment for maggot eggs and fleas. It was found that the injuries to her back leg were a result of the matted fur being wrapped around it so tight that it had cut off the circulation and gone right through the skin.

Fortunately, X-rays showed the injured leg wasn’t broken and no visible ligaments nor tendons had been severed. Although she suffers from complete muscle atrophy from her hip down, Curtsy feels pain and her paw was still warm upon first inspection – which gives hope about the possibility of saving her little leg.

Shaved down, bathed, and medicated, Curtsy could finally get some much-needed rest and a good night’s sleep. Her leg is in bad shape – but the lovely pup makes everyone hopeful about her future and recovery – by running around, sticking her tongue out, and seriously fighting for a second chance at life.

If you would like to help little Curtsy via making a donation towards her medical expenses, you can do so through the organization’s ‘website.
