Back in March of this year, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law known as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The bill bans the discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools until deemed “developmentally appropriate.”

The legislation signed into law by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis aims to stop instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade. Opposers who call the bill “Don’t Say Gay” are worried about what this will do for the LGBTQ+ community.
The bill aims to institutionalize anti-LGBTQ bigotry in the public school system. The vagueness of the law makes it hard for children and adults and forces them to worry that something they do could land them in legal trouble.
