PETA has offered media personality Katie Price £5,000 if she agrees never to acquire another animal. This move comes in response to the deaths of seven animals under Price’s care since 2017.
The tragedies include the loss of five dogs, a horse, and a chameleon. In 2017, Price’s horse escaped from a field and was fatally hit by a car. Subsequently, three of her dogs, Sparkle, Sharon, and Blade, perished in traffic accidents in 2020, 2022, and 2023, respectively. Another dog, Queenie, met a similar fate in 2018, while a chameleon named Marvin and a puppy named Rolo also tragically died under her care in the same year. Rolo suffocated in an electric armchair just weeks after joining her family.
The repeated incidents have drawn sharp criticism from animal welfare organizations and individuals alike. PETA‘s latest offer to Price includes £5,000 and a collection of plush animal toys, contingent upon her commitment to cease acquiring animal companions through a legally binding agreement.
In an open letter to Price, PETA Vice President Elisa Allen expressed concern over the growing number of animals suffering or dying under her supervision. The letter underscored the importance of acknowledging when a home is unsuitable for animal companions, despite good intentions. PETA emphasized that relinquishing pet ownership would not only benefit the animals but also serve as a positive example to Price’s children and supporters.
Price’s history with animal companions has been marred by controversy, including a petition launched in 2020 calling for her to be banned from keeping them. However, Price’s representatives defended her love for her animal companions, refuting claims that she shouldn’t keep animals and asserting that she passed inspections from the RSPCA.
Despite the Support she has received, including from her fans and representatives, the recent death of her dog Blade in June 2023 prompted renewed calls for accountability. PETA urged authorities to investigate Blade’s death and called for Price to be banned from keeping animals for life.
