The internet has found a new obsession, and it’s delightfully strange: turning pets into people with AI. Since OpenAI made its image generator free for everyone, users have been uploading pictures of their cats, dogs, and even lizards—and asking ChatGPT to reimagine them as humans.

According to Mashable’s Tim Marcin, the trend has exploded across Reddit and other social platforms, where pet lovers are using ChatGPT to anthropomorphize their animals. The results? A mix of wholesome and uncanny, depending on how comfortable you are with seeing your furry friend reimagined as a full-grown person lounging in their favorite spot.

In one viral Reddit post, a dog known for relaxing on a yellow chair was transformed into a man doing the same—prompting TechRadar’s John-Anthony Disotto to comment on the unsettling “uncanny valley” effect. While some users found the transformations adorable, others admitted the eeriness was hard to shake.

Still, the trend taps into something very human: the emotional connection we share with our pets. It’s just the latest example of how generative AI is being used not just for practical tasks, but for playful creativity and sometimes downright odd experiments. Last week, users were creating AI action figure versions of themselves. This week, it’s your goldendoodle’s turn to become a gentleman in a sweater vest.

Want to try it yourself? Upload a photo of your pet, prompt ChatGPT to “turn my pet into a human” while keeping the background the same, and let the AI do the rest. But don’t say we didn’t warn you—it’s impossible to unsee.
