Check your pantry, especially if you keep single serve snack packs for work or school. According to Caitlin Hornik at The Independent, more than 20,000 cases of peanut butter and peanut butter and jelly combo snacks from Ventura Foods are tied to an FDA recall update.

The issue sounds simple, but it matters. Pieces of blue plastic showed up during production. So the FDA upgraded the recall to Class II, which means the product could cause temporary or medically reversible health effects for some people. Even if serious outcomes seem unlikely, nobody wants to bite into plastic.

This recall also spans a huge footprint. Products shipped to dozens of states, and the FDA posted a list of affected items and lot numbers for shoppers to check.

Meanwhile, peanut butter is not the only product raising alarms. The FDA also flagged one lot of Tippy Toes Apple Pear Banana baby food puree after tests found elevated patulin, a toxin linked to mold. That is a reminder that food safety failures can hit the most vulnerable people first.

Then there is ground beef. Federal inspectors reported a recall of more than 22,000 pounds of raw ground beef products after routine testing found E. coli O145, a harmful strain that can make people sick within days.

All of this points to a bigger truth about the environment and our food system. Ultra processed, heavily packaged convenience foods create more waste, more plastic, and more chances for contamination. Choosing more plant based meals at home can cut packaging and lower stress on the Earth at the same time.

If you have the recalled items, do not eat them or share them, including with pets. And if you can, Support brands that prioritize safer packaging, cleaner supply chains, and kinder choices for animals and people.
