Dogs are an important part of military operations. They are an essential part of search and rescue missions, and their sensitive noses are also used to help locate hidden explosives. Currently, there are over 500 dogs working with the U.S. military.
Recently, legislation was passed to improve the quality of life for these amazing dogs, the most important being a bill from 2000, which grants these brave animals the right to retire when their service is up.
Mick is a seven-year-old black lab who is retiring after four tours in Afghanistan. However, he is one of the lucky ones, as he has found his forever home with one of his former handlers, marine corps veteran Matt Foster. For eight months, Matt and Mick worked side by side, completing over 180 successful patrols. Now that the time has come for Mick to transition into civilian life, Matt couldn’t be more happy to show him what spoiling a dog is all about!
With the help of the American Humane Association and Mission K9 Rescue, these two war buddies were reunited. Both of them are eager to begin this exciting new phase of their lives, proving once and for all, that dogs really are man’s best friend!
At K9 Mission Rescue, their mission statement is to serve those who have served. They specialize in finding homes for retired military dogs. If you would like to adopt a former service dog, visit their website for more information.
