What is wrong with some people!? Recently in a disturbing video, a man named “Mr. Shi” force fed alcohol to a rat and then set the animal on fire.
As a petition on Care2 states, “Mr. Shi” thought the rat was stealing his food … so his answer was to spread the rat out on a net, force him to drink 50-proof rice wine and then set the animal on fire. All while people laugh in the background! Unfortunately, these types of “rat revenge” videos have grown in popularity in China, with a similar video recently surfacing of a man torturing a rat in Wenchuan.
Contrary to popular belief, rats aren’t filthy pests, they are intelligent, social, and emotional beings. Rats are scavengers by nature and will eat just about anything they can find, so the little one Mr. Shi tortured was simply doing what comes naturally to him. What’s more, studies have shown that rats even laugh when they’re tickled and possess the same ability as dogs to think critically and puzzle through situations.
If you’re as mad as we are about this blatant animal cruelty, please sign this Care2 petition being sent to the Chinese government, urging them to punish “Mr. Shi” for animal abuse. And please be sure to share the petition with your friends and family to help gain even more awareness about this horrific story. Already the petition has 109,000 signatures and counting from concerned animal lovers. We must always speak up for those who cannot!
