Sadly, deer are hit by cars fairly often here in the U.S., but what’s not so common is what happened after this fawn’s mother was hit by one.
Bill Schulte was driving along when he saw another car hit a deer ahead of him. That car drove away, but Schulte stopped to check on the poor deer. And while it was too late to save her, he noticed something amazing. She was pregnant, and he could see the baby kicking inside her. The mom was gone, but there as still a chance to save the baby deer’s life. And what Schulte did next was truly amazing.
Schulte used a box cutter to open the dead mother’s belly and then slowly pulled out the baby fawn, neck first. Then he rushed the newborn 30 miles to an animal rescue facility. This baby deer would never have made it were it not for Schulte’s quick thinking and actions. Now that’s what you call a true Green Monster!
