A New Jersey man was arrested following an incident at Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Water Parks, where he is accused of decapitating a seagull. The arrest took place after 29-year-old Franklin Zeigler from Cape May allegedly reacted violently when a seagull attempted to snatch French fries from his daughter on July 6.

According to a press release from the North Wildwood Police Department, witnesses reported seeing Zeigler tear off the bird’s head. Zeigler was reportedly seen asking staff for a trash bag while holding the deceased seagull. Upon police arrival, Zeigler was described as irate and uncooperative, leading to charges of Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest.

Further investigation by the Humane Law Enforcement Office, which included reviewing witness statements and photographs, resulted in Zeigler being charged with third-degree Animal Cruelty. He was issued a summons and released, awaiting his court appearance.

The North Wildwood Police Department emphasized that Zeigler is presumed innocent until proven guilty and encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward.
