Breaking News: Cats are adorable and help to lighten the mood when discussing wars and other heavy business.

At least, that’s one possible reason behind Maago the cat’s presence on “Shuukan News Shinsho” (which loosely translates to Weekly News Digest) out of Japan. The cute little news-cat-ster can be seen roaming around the studio while the news is filmed, lounging on desks, grooming and basically doing cat things while the newscasters discuss hard-hitting issues.

We think this idea makes A LOT of sense. The news is admittedly stressful, there’s not a day that goes by when some health, climate or other equally dire global crisis isn’t looming over our heads. These issues are important and it’s imperative that we stay informed about them, but wouldn’t it just be so much better if there was an awesome cat cruising around the news room during the dissemination of terrifying facts? Studies show that cats not only help to lower stress and alleviate depression, but they also boost seratonin and dopamine levels which can increase a sense of meaning and self-esteem.

So, does that mean that having a cat in the newsroom would not only make the news less scary, but also make us feel more confident that we can do something about it? Until this brilliant idea takes hold in newsrooms worldwide we may never know – but we’re gonna go out on a limb and say that at the very minimum having kitties scampering around the studio would be a marked improvement for news programs everywhere. We can just picture it…

We gotta hand it to “Shuukan News Shinsho.” They couldn’t have cast a cuter cat correspondent than Maago.

Think of how much calmer Bill O’Reilly would be with a cat co-anchor.

“Fox and Friends” would be sooo much friendlier!

Kathy Lee and Hoda would have something else to do with their hands between sips of wine.

People would walk around saying things like, “Man, I’m in the BEST mood after watching CNN this morning!”

Of course, everything might take just a little longer when the cat constantly lays on the nice warm computer to take a nap.

“If you’ll direct your attention to the monitor you can see that, awwwwww…..”

With cats on the news, the world could get just a little bit cuddlier.
