This story just breaks our hearts into a million little pieces. Sheana, a five and half-year-old Boxer mix was physically abused by her first guardian and ever since she has been bounced around from shelters, rescues, adopters, training facilities – and now back to the shelter where she started, the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, NY. In fact, Sheana has been bounced around ELEVEN TIMES and has yet to find her forever home, becoming the shelter’s second oldest resident.

Due to her abusive past, Sheana becomes nervous when meeting new people, especially men. But according to, Magical Mikey Helping His Shelter Friends, a Facebook page to help shelter animals find their forever homes, Sheana blossoms into a loving and cuddly dog when slowly introduced to someone new.

The Facebook page also notes that she is house trained, crate trained, and is social with other dogs. She loves spending time with her human and is good on a leash. Sheana would be best suited for a quiet, adult-only home and she is able to live with calm, large dogs. The only thing Sheana’s human needs to do is accept her hugs and cuddles!

Let’s find this sweet girl her forever home! If you, or someone you know, is interested in Sheana, you can call the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter at (516) 785-5220 ext: 4632 or you can email them at: [email protected] Even if you can’t adopt, please SHARE!

If you already have a fur-baby, please always spay and neuter your pets and urge your friends and family to do the same. Fostering an animal is also a great way to help end the pet homelessness crisis. Regardless if you open up your home to a dog, cat, bird, small pets, pig, any pet, you can feel wonderful knowing you have saved a life and cared for a pet who will soon find his or her forever home.
