The way animals are raised for human consumption has drastically changed over the course of time. Modern day farms are more akin to factories than they are to any sort of idyllic pasture of yesteryear. Eating Animals, a new documentary starring long-time plant-based advocate Natalie Portman, takes a hard look at how this transition affects animals, the environment, and people.

Increasingly, we’ve become aware that our current food system doesn’t exist for anyone’s benefit other than the corporations behind it. Genetically-modified, antibiotic-, hormone-, and steroid-filled, cheap meat and dairy is not just devastating to animals, but it is also making people sick. Additionally, industrialized animal agriculture is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire transportation sector and is literally causing the destruction of the world’s remaining rainforests.

Eating Animals takes us back to a time when animals were respected and talks about how we can all make a difference in this broken system with our everyday choices. This is a message that couldn’t come a second sooner considering the enormous toll we are taking on the planet and its natural resources, thanks to factory farming. This informational and inspiring film joins a growing list of productions including Cowspiracy, Forks Over Knives, and What the Health, that prove plant-based food is the future … if we want to save the planet.

Eating Animals debuts in theaters June 15th, so keep an eye out for a screening near you!
