A London-based clinic claims to offer a futuristic solution to a very modern problem: microplastics in the bloodstream. As reported by Futurism, Clarify Clinics, located off the prestigious Harley Street in London, England, is offering a high-end blood-filtering treatment said to remove these tiny plastic particles from the body.
The service, called Clari, is based on a medical technique known as apheresis—traditionally used in plasma donation and treatment of certain autoimmune diseases. According to Clarify CEO Yael Cohen, the $12,000-per-session procedure is so seamless that some patients sleep through it. Others take work calls or watch Netflix. But the comfort of the experience is only part of the story.
Microplastics—tiny fragments of plastic Pollution—have been found in human blood, guts, brains, and even on Mount Everest. While research so far is mostly observational, studies have linked them to damage in human cells and organs. Wired’s reporter, Matt Reynolds, had his blood tested and found 190 particles per millimeter, which Cohen called “low.” Still, she reminded him, that’s around a million particles flowing through his body.
While there’s no concrete evidence yet proving Clari can remove all microplastics, apheresis is considered safe for several medical uses. The interest in the procedure has grown, partly thanks to longevity influencer Bryan Johnson—known for his intense health regimens and experiments with plasma exchange. His platform has brought more eyes (and wallets) to this wellness trend.
There’s no denying it: microplastics are everywhere. But whether costly blood scrubbing is the answer—or just a wellness fad—remains up for debate.
Want to avoid microplastics in your blood? Skip the $12K filter and ditch plastic wherever possible. Choose reusable, plant-based, and cruelty-free products. Better for you, better for animals, and way better for the planet.
