We’re not going to sugarcoat it … our oceans are a complete mess. From the floating islands of trash to mysterious unclaimed fishing nets, our planet’s oceans are chock full of debris and waste that are turning once beautiful vistas into landfills. Sadly, the floating trash is way more than just an eyesore. Plastics and fishing line wreak havoc on any wildlife they encounter. It is estimated that around 700 marine species are in danger of extinction because of plastic pollution in their habitat.
While, unfortunately, the majority of interactions between marine life and plastic end poorly, in some cases kind people are able to intervene before the worst happens. Luckily, this was the case when the diver in this video came across a bottle-nose dolphin tangled in fishing line.
In most cases, injured animals are frightened or unsure of the humans that come to their aid, but it seems like this dolphin instinctively knew the diver was there to help him.
When the dolphin is finally free, he turns to acknowledge the diver in thanks, a true testimate to the emotional and intellectual abilities of these amazing creatures!
