Unfortunately, despite continuous advancements in technology and scientific research, animal testing is still a very common practice. According to a petition on Care2, 4.1 million innocent animals like dogs, cats, monkeys, and rabbits were used in animal testing in 2016 in the UK alone.

The petition’s author explains that animal testing is illegal if alternative methods are available. However, if there is not enough funding for these alternative methods, then animal testing remains legal. The solution to this catch-22 is simple: increase funds for alternative research methods.

According to the petition, less than three percent of funding for research in the UK goes toward alternative methods, such as human or computer-based tests. These methods not only save animals, they have also proven to cost less and result in more beneficial and safer results.

If you are against animal testing, please take a moment to sign this petition requesting the UK government do two things: increase funding for alternative methods to animal testing and put pressure on laboratories to fund alternative research methods as well. At a time when science and technology are discovering groundbreaking alternatives to improve our lives without harming the earth or animals, there is no excuse for animal testing to maintain as a function of society.

Please help spread the word about animal testing and share this with your network, encouraging them to sign the petition and help save the UK’s laboratory animals.
