If you ever need a little reassurance that love really is the thing that makes the world go ‘round, look no further than Cami, the little dog rescued by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. Cami was rescued after concerned neighbors got in touch with the organization. They reported Cami was left outside in all weather, which is bad enough in itself, but this poor dog, barely a year old, was so malnourished that she looked like a walking skeleton.

The neighbors initially tried to feed her scraps of food, watching helplessly as she tried to hide in a well in the yard to shelter from bad weather. The rescuer from Rescue Dogs Rock reported that they hadn’t seen a case of mange as bad as Cami’s in years.

When Cami was rescued, her heartless owners watched from the window and showed no remorse or concern at all. Complaints have now been lodged with the local sheriff’s office so these despicable people can be brought to justice.

Cami’s initial outlook wasn’t good. She was anemic and very weak, with her blood platelet count so low she barely had any energy at all. Her contagious mange was itchy and painful. Her skin was more like stone than anything.

Thankfully, weeks of medication has helped Cami’s skin heal, and she is growing her fur back!  She has gained weight, and more importantly, confidence, learning to trust people again after her ordeal.

In fact, she’s doing so well she is now up for adoption!

Look at this beautiful picture of a restored, healthy Cami and tell us your heart isn’t melting.

It shouldn’t need to be said, but taking on a pet is a huge commitment. You have to consider everything your pet is going to need and be sure that you can give it to them. Pets become a part of your family, and anyone who can’t imagine treating their pets as such probably isn’t fit to have a pet at all. Pets teach us about ourselves, as well as give us unwavering love and company; it is our duty to give the same things back.

Thanks to the fantastic work by Rescue Dogs Rock, Cami gets a new lease on life and a forever home with someone deserving of her company. If you’d like to adopt a dog yourself or donate towards medical treatment of other dogs, please reach out to Rescue Dogs Rock.

Stories like this make me livid. Who could be so cold-hearted and cruel as to treat an animal that way. This really strikes close to home for me. About four years ago, we adopted a male German Shepherd that was owned by someone in our neighborhood. He was skin and bones, and in very poor shape, with terrible mange, crawling with fleas, bleeding feet, missing fur and many skin sores. One day, as the dog and his persecutor were walking past my house, I offered the kid $100 and he took it - said he had a warrant and was taking off anyway. We immediately took the dog to our vet, who said he was extremely malnourished and not too far from death. He weighed barely 60 lbs. They immediately bathed him, gave him powerful antibiotics, medicine for the mange and fleas, and ointment for his feet. $800 later that day, we took him home. For over 2 months, he had to be medicated, and gradually his sores and feet healed. Hero is now a gorgeous 120 lb. beauty. His fur is shiny, although he still has a large bare spot in the middle of his lower back, and a little scar tissue by his elbows, but to us he\'s perfect. We couldn\'t love each other more. He can be a fierce protector when he needs to be and a Scooby-Doo when he doesn\'t. Thank God for people who care about abused animals, although it breaks my heart to think of the thousands who are still out there suffering. Thank you, Rescue Dogs Rock.

Once again, please don\'t refer to the relationships between humans and other animals with any form of "own". They are individuals, not things nor slaves. Please try to use parents, caretakers, guardians, humans, etc. instead. Thank you.

Thank you for that. It makes me crazy when I hear he phrase dog/cat/etc. owner..this is a mentality that needs to stop. I won inanimate objects, not a sentient being.

You people want the world to be perfect but it is not and never will be!! I have a lab that is 9yrs old and the word "own" is always used by people including his Vets. I own this dog and I am responsible for him which is everything that concerns him. GET A LIFE!!

I trust that the owners were fined out of their home and /or put in jail for cruelty to animals. They should not EVER be allowed to own any other animal and in fact, that should include children.

Maybe they got a fine, but I doubt much more.
