Unfortunately, species that are classified as “farmed animals,” such as cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens, rarely get a fighting chance for survival.
Most are born on factory farms with a certain fate of slaughter long before their expected life span. These animals are typically forced to stay in cramped, filthy quarters where they are treated as objects rather than living beings. Farmed animals are treated far worse than other companion animals like cats or dogs, and most of society has come to accept that mistreatment as normal. Thankfully, several people are working hard to fight against this, including Hof Butenland, an animal sanctuary near the coast of Germany that rescues farmed animals from their dismal fates and provides them with a forever home.
In the above video posted by Hof Butenland, we see a beautiful cow peacefully lying in the pasture grass with his doting caretaker. The gentle giant nuzzles his human friend, soaks up some chin scratches, and rests his head on her lap. If it wasn’t for his impressive size and budding horns, we would think he was a puppy!
There has been a plethora of evidence that proves farmed animals are highly intelligent creatures with deep emotional and social bonds, and it is high time they are respected and treated as such.
If you love animals and think all cows should live like the ones at Hof Butenland, please share this sweet story with your friends and family!
