There are few things in life more sacred than the bond between a mother and her baby. This is as true for animals as it is for human beings. Yet every day, millions of mothers are separated from their babies by the heartless dairy industry, in order to provide milk for the masses. Many people don’t realize that in order for a cow to give milk, she has to have a baby, just like in the case of humans. However, if these cows were allowed to nurse their babies, there wouldn’t be milk to sell! Tragically, for the dairy industry to be profitable, the calves are dragged away from their grieving mothers and often sold to become veal or raised to produce milk as well.
Hoff Butenland, is a farm animal sanctuary in northern Germany, that seeks to put an end to some of this suffering by offering lifelong homes to many of Germany’s abused, neglected, and unwanted farm animals. Here, these animals can relax, enjoying some of the finer things in life, including each other! The mama cow and calf in this video are a true picture of how these animals should get to live.
