JUST Foods (formerly Hampton Creek) is an innovative plant-based food company most widely known for their mayos and spreads. Earlier this year, they debuted a new product, the Just Egg, an animal-free scrambled egg alternative made from mung beans, and its popularity has already soared, filling in the long-standing need for more vegan egg alternatives. The Just Egg has been gradually rolling out in select restaurants and retailers, and they are now making another big move by partnering with Aramark to bring their plant-based eggs to colleges, hospitals, and workplaces!
The Just Egg will be featured on Aramark breakfast menus as a breakfast patty beginning October 22nd for a limited time. Thirty percent of Aramark’s menus are already composed of vegetarian and vegan options, so the Just Egg fits in well.
JUST co-founder and CEO Josh Tetrick stated: “Launching JUST Egg is a major milestone and we’re thrilled to have Aramark as one of our first global foodservice providers to help us expand our reach and further our mission in bringing food that’s not only delicious but healthier and more sustainable to a larger audience.”
Leader of product development at Aramark, Heidi Hogan, shared: “As part of our commitment to developing healthier and sustainable menus, we’re continuously looking for new ways to bring-to-market innovative products … Expanding our menu offerings to include JUST Egg further speaks to our promise to deliver healthy recipes that not only feature quality ingredients but taste good, too.”
This partnership is important because it shows exactly where the future of food is headed — toward plant-based nutrition and away from animal products. According to a survey conducted by Aramark, 80 percent of their consumers say they are open to trying new plant-based foods, and 58 percent said they are drawn to plant-based options for personal health reasons, so we predict the Just Egg will prove to be popular with their consumer base and hopefully become a permanent feature on Aramark menus.
This partnership is also wonderful news for animal welfare and the environment, as the egg industry is rife with animal abuse and neglect, responsible for baby chicks ground up alive by the barrel, beak mutilation, mass air and water Pollution, and the spread of harmful diseases like avian flu. And remember to SHARE this with your friends and family so they can keep an eye out for the JUST Egg arriving at an Aramark-run food court near them!
