Country music star Chase Rice has found more than just a stage partner in his black Labrador, Jack — he’s found his best friend and life teacher. In a new interview with Billboard, Rice opens up about the powerful bond he shares with Jack, who not only stars in his music video for “Bench Seat” but also inspired the emotional track itself.
The song, written in response to a friend’s mental health struggles, highlights how a dog’s silent companionship can change a life. That message hit home for Rice, who decided it was finally time to adopt a dog of his own. He found Jack, a black Lab trained as a duck hunter, through Mossy Pond Retrievers in Georgia. Since then, the two have been inseparable, even sharing the stage at concerts.
Jack isn’t just a show dog; he’s become a symbol of connection and compassion. Rice hugs him before every meal, tells him he’s the best dog he’s ever had, and proudly shares that Jack has made him a better man. He’s even writing more songs about him, with tracks like “Arkansas” and the unreleased “October” name-dropping his four-legged friend.
Rice briefly considered giving Jack a “little bro,” but for now, he’s focused on the dog that changed his life. Jack may not be a fan of Rice’s music — the singer jokes he’s probably sick of it — but there’s no denying the mutual love between them.
If stories like this remind you how deeply animals touch our lives, consider adopting instead of shopping for a pet. They don’t just need us — we need them too.
