Despite their differences, cats and dogs can form a close and emotional bond. This can be seen in a TikTok video posted by @_lindsayrae. The video shows one cat’s grief over losing her Golden Retriever “big brother”.

In the video, the sad cat can be seen sniffing at the dog’s collar. She then rubs her face against the collar and rests her cheek against it. Text overlay on the video details the cat’s relationship with the dog. When their human first adopted the feline, she was “terrified” of the dog and “hissed at him for weeks”. However, eventually, she realized that the Golden Retriever was gentle and would not harm her and the two became fast friends.

Like other animals, cats grieve when they lose a beloved companion. This can be seen in the video as the sad cat mourns her canine sibling. The video has been liked 1.5 million times. One user, beeshoneyknees, shared their cat’s similar reaction when their dog died. “My cat & dog would hide around corners & jump out at each other after my dog passed my cat would look around corners for her.” Stories like these highlight the close friendships animals can form. In the words of TikTok user r.marie, “these stories just lets us know how precious pets are.”
