Although dogs are typically credited for being humans’ best friends, cats have long been valued companions throughout history. From being revered for their elegance and mysticism in ancient Egypt, appreciated as pest deterrents and companions by merchants on boats, admired as pricey posh parlor cats in Victorian times, and now being the most popular critters on the Internet, cats are truly fascinating and beautiful creatures. It is our closeness with our feline companions that makes stories about injured or abandoned cats hit all the more close to home, and this tragic story of an injured cat from Banbridge, Northern Ireland might just bring a tear to your eye.

An animal rescue called The Doghouse Sanctuary received a call about a poor tuxedo cat whose paw had been snapped in a barbaric rusty trap. The cat, now named Twinkles, was rushed for veterinary care and it was discovered that he had broken his teeth trying to bite free from the trap.

Rescuers were worried Twinkles’ paw would have to be amputated, but they are optimistic he might make a recovery and avoid losing his paw. Although Twinkles is lucky he was found before matters became even worse, he still has a long road to recovery. His vet bills are high and The Doghouse Sanctuary is asking for donations to help Twinkles recover. If you are able, please take a moment to donate towards this sweet cat’s rehabilitation.

No living being should have to endure the pain and suffering of being caught in such a trap. There are humane alternatives to these traps that do not hurt animals and allow people to relocate unwanted animals from their yards. As we can see from this heartbreaking story, animals suffer immensely when caught in these old-fangled traps, and people need to be aware of the dangers these traps hold, so please share this story with your friends and family to spread awareness of the issue and increase Support for this sweet cat.

  1. All traos are required to be labeled with the trappers name. They are supposed to be chkd once every 24 hours. the owner of this one sd be charged with abuse.

    1. I totally agree with you .

I wish that vets ( who overcharge everywhere ) would donate their time , now and then, in a case like this for instance .. Can\’t they just be vets and help animals, do they have to charge thousands of dollars ?
