As far as unusual interspecies adoptions go, this one is certainly an eye-catcher! In this minute-long YouTube clip, we see a mother cat named Sonuya taking on the nurturing role for a group of baby hedgehogs with no mother of their own.
As the video uploader ignoramusky explains, when the four little hedgehogs were sadly orphaned, their chances of survival appeared bleak. However, Sonya immediately stepped in, took the babies under her wing (or should that be, paw?) and allowed them to drink some of her milk. Ignoramusky said she now has “one kitty-kid of her own and four adopted hedgehogs!”
It just goes to show that the emotional lives of non-human animals are a lot more complex than most people give them credit for. Who would have thought that this strange new family would get along so well together?
