The boys were stuck in a rip current off of Tuscany’s Forte dei Marmi beach. Rip currents are dangerous currents of fast-moving water. They can quickly pull swimmers out to sea. The boys were about 160 feet from the shore when they became stuck in one of these currents. When they realized they were unable to return to shore, they began to call for assistance.
Kelly and Beatrice did not hesitate to respond. The two Golden Retrievers were trained as lifeguard dogs by the Italian Rescue Dog School. With great effort, the brave duo was able to save all five boys from the dangerous current. Kelly and Beatrice received much admiration and praise for their bravery.
