Foster homes make a big difference for shelter animals, as shown in before and after photos of one puppy. Shelters are stressful environments for most dogs. They are loud and full of strange sights and smells. Sadly, this stress can drastically alter a dog’s personality. Although they may be naturally loving and sweet, they can shut down due to the overwhelming attributes of the shelter environment.
This was the case for one puppy named Baton. The nine-month-old puppy was brought to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, North Carolina on October 16, 2023. Baton is thought to be black mouth cur and hound mix.
Although she was young, Baton became withdrawn and scared at the shelter. According to a Facebook post from the rescue, “She was shut down and didn’t even enjoy a walk. She would hide under the nearest bush and close her eyes tightly.” However, soon Baton was placed in a foster home.
In her new placement, Baton’s stress melted away. She began to enjoy walks and to trust people. Now, she is a different dog! Baton’s story proves just how important foster homes are. Without being placed with a family, Baton could have remained terrified and shut down. However, her foster family’s love has allowed her personality to bloom.
