BBC’s Make A Difference Awards 2024 Recognizes Amazing Animals

award

The BBC Make A Difference Awards is taking a turn this year. As nominations open for the 2024 edition, the spotlight extends beyond humans to celebrate the contributions of animals. This inclusive move by the BBC reflects the profound impact animals have in enhancing the lives of individuals and communities, alongside those dedicated to advancing animal welfare.

Chris Burns, Controller of Local Audio Commissioning for BBC England, expressed the sentiment behind the expansion, stating, “We are a nation of animal lovers, and our listeners often share stories of how their pets offer them Support and companionship.” So, it’s only fitting to acknowledge these extraordinary bonds by introducing a dedicated category in the Make A Difference Awards.

The call to action resonates with local BBC radio listeners across England, inviting them to nominate individuals and animals whose acts of kindness and service have left a lasting imprint on their communities.

Since starting during the first pandemic lockdown, Make A Difference has evolved, connecting those in need with those offering Support. With over 14 million interactions across all 39 local BBC radio stations, the initiative has become a beacon of hope and solidarity during challenging times.

The 2024 awards feature a diverse array of categories, including Volunteer, Community, Fundraiser, Carer, Great Neighbour, Bravery, The Green Award, and the newly introduced Animal Award. Each category highlights the different facets of service, courage, and dedication that define the essence of community spirit.

As nominations pour in, the stage is set for a heartwarming celebration of human and animal kindness. The Make A Difference Award ceremonies, scheduled for September and hosted by local BBC radio stations, will be a testament to the resilience and compassion that characterize communities across England.

For those eager to nominate deserving individuals or animals, detailed information can be found at bbc.co.uk/makeadifference, including the nomination process and category details. Nominations are open until March 10, 2024.
