This baby elephant doesn’t even dream of letting her caretaker leave her behind. As is the case with all little elephants, she got strongly attached to her parent figure incredibly fast – and since she hadn’t had the chance to find that figure in her mom, this baby gave all her affection to her new human friend.
The three months old elephant calf was found trapped in a waterhole and rescued by The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) and is now safe and ready to work towards a return to the wild at the organization’s Nairobi Nursery.
DSWT is a pioneering rescue and rehabilitation program for orphaned elephants and a Conservation organization for wildlife and habitat protection in East Africa. For forty years, it has been immensely successful at rescues and rehabilitation of orphaned elephants and rhinos. Since the elephant and rhino populations are being threatened by the practice of poaching and human-induced loss of habitat, the organization strives to help as many animals as they can and give them a chance to return happily to the wild.
