In France, Claude Ponti is a famed children’s author who writes and illustrates his own works. An artist at heart, Ponti has taken his creative mind and put it to a new and exciting challenge: living sculptures. Bringing the characters he draws to life, using nothing but flowers and shrubbery, Ponti has created a beautiful, all-live installation in the Jardin des Plantes, in Nantes, France.

This is the second year in a row that Ponti has created an installation in Jardin des Plantes, and the public reception has been overwhelmingly positive. The sculptures Ponti crafts are larger-than-life animals that would spark, inspire and amaze the imagination of viewers young and old.

Just take a look at these incredible pieces:

A giant bird stops for a little nap; don’t worry, he’s set an alarm to wake him up for work.

Here, another bird stretches out to sun himself. Just check out how huge he looks compared to the tiny humans.

Ponti sees the Chia Pet, and raises the bar with these beautiful bird planters.

Be careful where you walk in the Jardin des Plantes, you might accidentally step on someone’s head!

Bringing all our childhood fantasies to life in the garden, Ponti’s worm traverses through water and land with ease.

How often do you come across a group of plants that actually smiles back at you?

If you look close enough, you’ll spot a dog slumbering in the garden. Remember, you should always let a sleeping dog lie!

If you ever needed an excuse to travel to Nantes, seeing this awesome spectacle first hand is certainly a good one! Nature is beautiful on its own, but when crafted with the skillful hand of an artist, the result is even more incredible.
