Air Fryers Improve Indoor Air Quality

Beyond their reputation for convenience and healthier cooking, air fryers now offer another compelling benefit: cleaner air. A November study by researchers at the University of Birmingham revealed that air fryers produce significantly fewer pollutants than other cooking methods, making them the cleanest option for indoor cooking.

The study examined particulate matter and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), both of which contribute to indoor air pollution. Particulate matter includes tiny solid and liquid particles that can harm human health depending on their composition. VOCs consist of various compounds like fatty acids and aldehydes, which are not only harmful but can also lead to the formation of secondary pollutants such as ozone and aerosols.

Indoor air pollution from cooking has serious health implications. The researchers highlighted risks such as cardiovascular and lung diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, and even cancer. Vulnerable populations, such as children and the elderly, face heightened risks from prolonged exposure. Moreover, cooking-related pollutants don’t just remain indoors; they contribute to outdoor air quality issues as well.
