Adorable Rescued Chimp Enjoys the Simple Things in Life — Paper! (PHOTOS)

Did you ever get your kids/pets an expensive Christmas present, only to watch them play with the empty box instead? Sometimes, kids prefer the simple things in life, and it looks like these chimps feel the same way!

The Chimp Sanctuary Northwest (CSN) in Cle Elum, Wash., maintains an Amazon.com wish list of basic office and cleaning supplies like latex gloves and stamps. When supporters send supplies from the wish list, the chimps have fun playing with the paper used to pad packages.

To aid their fun, CSN added crepe paper, toilet paper, and a roll of red wrapping paper to the fray. Check out the photos below to watch one of the sanctuary chimps, Jamie, playfully mix and match the different papers.

Much like a kid making a fort, she builds a sophisticated “nest” with different layers of paper, adding toilet paper and nearby cloth on top for the soft texture.  At one point, she reportedly wrapped herself in the toilet paper like a mummy, but unfortunately the camera wasn’t around during this alleged antic.

It just goes to show that it doesn’t take much to entertain animals and show you care. From fresh air to green grass, trees to climb and toys made of “trash,” animals teach us how to be content with very little.
