A new fire popped up in California on October 26. The Silverado Fire has burned 12,466 acres in the area, evacuating 100,000 residents, and has brought 500 firefighters to help contain the blaze.

Local officials shared that two firefighters were injured trying to tame the fire. This is a tough fire, where we’re experiencing very high winds, very low humidities,” Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) Chief Brian Fennessy said in a press conference, per NBC News. “Our firefighters are some of the bravest, if not the bravest in the world.”

Close to the Silverado Fire, the Blue Ridge fire has covered 3,000 acres with 200 firefighters working on the fire.

Southern California Edison shared that a power line might have ignited the Silverado Fire. Ed Pascasio, a local resident, told CNN, “The sky was orange, kind of like doomsday. I’ve never seen it change dramatically that fast. A lot of neighbors were leaving at the same time. Everyone was shocked by the speed of it all,” he said.

The fire was 93% contained by November 2.

So far in 2020, at least 8,000 fire incidents have been reported by Cal Fire. 4 million acres, a record, have burned in the fires.
