Comedian Nikki Glaser, fresh from her standout performance at the Tom Brady roast and the release of her HBO special and debut song “Someday You’ll Die,” has partnered with PETA in a daring new campaign. Known for her sharp wit, Glaser uses her platform to advocate for animal-free fashion in a striking campaign that features her performing stand-up comedy. The campaign highlights a video spot where Glaser, donning a stylish faux leather jacket and an apple leather bag, delivers a humorous yet poignant message. She addresses the audience’s reluctance to abandon real leather, quipping, “I know you’re scared ’cause you think you won’t look as cool without, like, real-leather things. But I promise you, if that is what your personality is dependent on, you need to go to therapy.”
PETA’s campaign sheds light on the severe cruelty inflicted on animals for clothing and accessories. Investigations reveal the brutal treatment of animals: sheep beaten for wool, goats left with bloody wounds in mohair and cashmere operations, cows electroshocked and slaughtered for leather, and ducks and geese plucked alive for down. Minks and other animals suffer in squalid conditions on fur farms.
Thankfully, vegan alternatives are now widely available, and PETA’s “How to Wear Vegan” guide assists consumers in making compassionate choices. Glaser emphasizes the moral imperative with her trademark humor, “You would never put your dog through what sheep have to go through to give up their wool. So stop hiding from the truth. I know it sucks. I hate to tell you this way.”
