My love of simple DIY beauty recipes and holistic living came from being raised by my late grandmother and playing in her natural garden and kitchen. Our medicine cabinet was our kitchen pantry and our grocery store was right outside our door. My desire to further my education in holistic living came after a major health scare and is now the driving force for me to spread the knowledge to families everywhere. Hey, guys! Everyone knows I love a good DIY beauty recipe so today I decided to share one of my favorites that I use on a weekly basis with all of you. I have very sensitive skin so this DIY Bentonite clay mask was the perfect addition to my weekly skincare regiment. This clay mask consist of two simple ingredients; Indian Healing Clay and Aloe Vera Juice. Some people use Apple Cider Vinegar, but I found that my skin likes the Aloe Vera better. I also like to add oils like jojoba oil and almond oil to help with additional moisturizing properties.
I’m going to share how to make this healing mask with all of you but before I do, let’s talk benefits and uses!

“Bentonite clay is a clay that is mined from the earth, and it’s formed after a volcanic ash has weathered and aged in the presence of water. It has a strong negative electromagnetic charge, and when activated by water, it acts like a magnet in and on our bodies, pulling metals and toxins to it.It also has an effect on the body’s pH and provides the body with some vital minerals at the same time.” – Empowered Sustenance
So basically bentonite clay is a “healing clay” that can either be used internally by mixing it in drinks and food or by adding it to your skin care products. This unique clay is a great way to cleanse or detoxify your body by absorbing toxins from your body. I personally use it on my hair and on my face as a mask, but I’ve heard great things about the benefits of consuming it internally as well.
While I haven’t explored all the benefits of bentonite clay, I plan to. So make sure to check back periodically as I share my experiences and what’s working for me and what isn’t.
Now on to how I use it. I keep it pretty simple and use it only as a hair and skin mask. When using it on my hair it provides a detox that leaves my hair fully cleanse and restores my curls to my natural hair. I also use the same mixture on my face. I first cleanse my face with my regular cleansing agent and then apply the left-over bentonite clay to my face and let set for 10-15 minutes before removing with warm water.
